Nathalie, a German tourist, witnesses a tragic accident in the Canary Islands. A boat carrying African refugees who are desperately seeking a better life in Europe is wrecked; among the survivors, Nathalie meets Zola and his small son, Mamadou. Despite objections from her husband Paul, she immediately decides to help them escape the process that will have them deported. This film features very current humanitarian and political issues concerning African refugees today in Europe and is a gripping and moving story about humanity and responsibility with the essential focus on the human dilemma of when to get involved or not.
