1961. A father from Soviet Lithuania and his daughter, an émigré living in the United States, are planning to meet in Berlin after being separated for seventeen years. Irrespective of the "thawing" period in the Soviet Union, and the Berlin Wall not yet built, the Cold War is approaching its culmination. Immediately upon arriving in Berlin, the father is arrested by KGB secret police, who then try to entice the daughter to come to the East. However, the atmosphere of a city steeped in mistrust prevents her from stepping across the border out of West Berlin. To help each other escape any potential KGB entrapments, both are prepared to renounce the meeting they've been yearning for so long.
