19th Days of European Film festival is drawing nearer

The festival of contemporary European cinematography will be held the 19th year. The Days of European Film will take place this year in Prague in the Světozor and Lucerna cinemas on April 12–19. Then it will continue in Brno in the Art cinema (April 20-26, 2012).

The Echoes of the Days of European Film will be held in these towns and days this year: Boskovice (April 25–27, 2012), Uherské Hradiště (April 25–27, 2012), Jablonec nad Nisou (April 25–29, 2012), Veselí nad Moravou (April 25–27, 2012), Ostrava (April 28–May 2, 2012), Olomouc (April 25–27, 2012).

Festival dramaturge Zdeněk Blaha has revealed from the programme:

„The programme will offer over 40 films from more than 25 European countries. The audience can again look forward to the selection of European films that have been shortlisted for the Oscar nominations in the category of best non-English-speaking film (National League section), a section of films nominated for the European Parliament's award, the LUX Prize, as well as a section devoted to the European Commission's current issue (section To the Point) which focuses on the approach to old age and ageing this year. The programme will again include the Film&Music section, introduced last year, that offers European music films, and not only documentaries.""

The Days of European Film will be opened with the co-produced historical film A Royal Affair that is now contesting the Golden Bear best film award in the main competition section of the Berlinale film festival.

In cooperation with the MEDIA Desk Czech Republic, the Days of European Film will also offer a special section of the films that were successfully drawing financial support from the MEDIA programme in the past. We will screen films from 2002 to 2011. Within the celebrations of ten years of the MEDIA European programme in the Czech Republic, the festival viewers can see ten extraordinary films.

„In 2012, ten years will have passed since the Czech Republic joined the MEDIA programme. It supports not only the production of new European films, but also their distribution and screening in cinemas. This is why we have decided to remind of this anniversary by the screening of films that were presented in the Czech Republic with the MEDIA support in the past ten years. The audience will have a chance to see again the films that are no longer in distribution in cinemas, such as Manderlay directed by Lars von Trier and The Man Without a Past by Aki Kaurismäki," Daniela Staníková, director of the MEDIA Desk Czech Republic programme, added.
