The 19th Days of European Film (DEF) festival will be opened in Prague’s Světozor cinema on April 12, 2012 with the Danish-Czech historical film A Royal Affair that won two Silver Bear awards at the International Film Festival in Berlin this year (script: Rasmus Heisterberg and Nikolaj Arcel, the best actor in a leading role: Mikkel Boe Følsgaard). The film was made in Czech co-production and it was shot mainly in the Czech Republic. Mads Mikkelsen, known from the James Bond film Casino Royale, appears in a leading role in this film directed by Danish Nikolaj Arcel. The film will be personally introduced by the Silver Bear winner Mikkel Boe Følsgaard at the festival’s ceremonial opening.
The press screening of A Royal Affair takes place in the Atlas cinema (Sokolovská 371/1, Prague 8) at 14:00 on Thursday, March 15, 2012. The Prague part of the Days of European Film will close with Coriolanus, a modern adaptation of one of William Shakespeare’s plays, on April 19, 2012. Its director, British Ralph Fiennes, has chosen a work by his compatriot for his debut as a film director, and he has joined forces with scriptwriter John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator).
“Though the film can at first sight look like an ordinary action movie (also thanks to the casting of actor Gerard Butler), the appearances are definitively deceptive in this case – Fiennes approaches Shakespeare with respect, which he also confirms by the casting of brilliant actors playing in Shakespeare’s dramas, such as Vanessa Redgrave and Brian Cox,” Zdeněk Bláha, the festival’s programme manager, adds.
The www.eurofilmfest.cz website with detailed information on the 19th DEF (the festival’s programme, a catalogue to be downloaded, news etc.) is available as of today. This year’s festival for the first time offers an online sale of tickets that has been launched by Prague’s Světozor and Lucerna cinemas.
